White Rose Sailor was originally written to entertain friends at renaissance faires - friends who often choose personae of a seafaring nature and say “Arrrrrr!” a lot! Most everyone likes sea stories and White Rose Sailor tells such a tale indeed. It is a story of two young lovers separated by need and the ocean. The sea can be a cruel mistress, but she can also bring you home...

Jamie was a handsome laddie. Mary was his dearest love.
And they swore that they would marry, swore by moon and stars above.
But his family it was lowly, of no estate and sorely poor,
So he signed on a sailing vessel, the “White Rose” was the name she bore.
Oh, it’s cold the winds are blowing and the sea is white with foam
Far away the “White Rose’ sailor from his love and from his home.

The “White Rose” had a bonny captain, William Baker was his name
And to sail the fastest crossing was to be his own true fame.
Tearful was their tender parting though he told her not to fear
And he told his dearest Mary that he’d see her in a year.

Far away the “White Rose’ sailor from his love and from his home.

Dark the clouds above water, white the sails so full and brave
Icy winds of a nor’wester, deep and dark will be their grave.
Broken is the heart of Mary as the bell begins to toll.
She prays to God for her White Rose sailor. She prays to God for Jamie’s soul.
